What we fit
The shutters we make to measure
All built and finished by Norman, all measured against your actual openings.
- Faux wood shutters
- The cost-effective plantation shutter, designed to mimic real wood and built to shrug off humidity and hard use.
- Stained wood shutters
- Real wood in the full current range of stains and colors. Keeps heat and humidity out when closed, and makes a statement when open.
- Specialty shaped shutters
- Arched, circular and uniquely angled windows, built individually to enhance the shape rather than fight it.
- Café style shutters
- Covering the lower half of the window only. Privacy at street level with the daylight left alone above it.
- Full height shutters
- Floor to ceiling on tall windows, with a divider rail so the top and bottom halves tilt independently.
- Door and sidelight shutters
- Fitted to French doors, entry sidelights and anything that has to keep working as a door.
- Bay and bow windows
- Angled frames cut to the bay so the panels meet properly at each corner rather than approximately.
- Motorized louver tilt
- Tilt from a remote or a schedule on tall windows and anything above a stair landing.
How shutters work
Four things a shutter controls that a blind cannot
A shutter is a fitted piece of joinery rather than something that hangs at the window, and that is where the difference comes from.
Light and privacy
Tilt the louvers
Change the angle and you change the light and the privacy together, without moving the panel at all. Closed for the evening, angled through the afternoon, open in the morning.
Air and temperature
Open the panel
The whole panel swings back off the opening, so you get the full window and the full airflow. A closed shutter also holds heat and humidity out in a way a fabric treatment does not.
The room
Built into the opening
A frame fitted to the window reads as part of the house rather than as something added to it. This is the decorative value people are actually buying, and it is why shutters carry a room.
Shutters are the bulkier product, and in a small room that weight can work against you. Where a room is tight, blinds usually sit better, and we will say so on the visit rather than sell you the more expensive thing.
What you are choosing between
Three shutter builds, and the room decides which
The choice is mostly about where the shutter is going and how much moisture and sun it has to survive. All three are made to measure and all three are finished at the same facilities.
Faux wood
Best for kitchens, bathrooms and anywhere with humidity.
- Mimics real wood at a lower cost
- Handles humidity and temperature swing without warping
- Easy maintenance: a wipe rather than a treatment
- The cost-effective route to the plantation shutter look
- Heavier than real wood, which limits the widest single panels
The most-fitted shutter we sell.
Stained wood
Where the room already has wood you are matching to.
- Real wood grain, in the full range of current stains and colors
- Lighter than faux, so wider panels are possible
- Keeps heat and humidity at bay when closed
- The statement version: elegance is the point
- Real wood belongs in a dry room, so not the choice for a bathroom
Specialty shapes
Arched, circular and angled windows that have no standard size.
- Arches, circles, angles and oversized openings
- Measured and built individually, not ordered from a chart
- Same louver control as a rectangular panel
- Available in both faux and stained wood
- Longer lead time, because nothing about it is off a shelf
Every window deserves a covering, including the ones that were never designed to have one.
Why we only fit Norman
We changed manufacturer because ours failed a customer
When we started out we bought our shutters from the same place as everyone else in the area. Every company was installing the same product at the same quality, which meant the only way to stand out was on price or on service.
Then the production standards of that big local manufacturer started showing. Staples worked their way out. Corner joints cracked. One of our customers had shutter panels bubbling and cracking, and when we took it to the manufacturer we were told it was sun damage and not covered under warranty. We sanded and repainted those shutters out of our own pocket, because we had given the customer our word and the manufacturer's position did not change what we had promised.
That sent us looking for someone else, and what we found was Norman Window Fashions. In our view they make the best interior shutters at any price, manufactured and finished at their own facilities rather than assembled locally. There is a real difference between how shutters are made and finished around Atlanta and how Norman does it. We are a certified Norman dealer now, and we compete on product quality as well as on price and service. See a sample and we think you will agree.

It pays to compare
Nine questions to ask every shutter company you talk to
We would rather you asked these of us and of everyone else than take our word for any of it. Is the seller an accredited member of the BBB? Who do they actually buy their shutters from? Do they hold a certificate of insurance?
Then the product itself. Compare real samples side by side rather than photographs. Is there a brochure? What are the quality control standards at the facility the shutters come from? Are the products free of V.O.C.s?
And then the part people skip until it matters. Is there a written warranty, and what specifically is and is not covered? We ask you to check that one on us too. A warranty that is only ever described out loud is not a warranty, and the gap between what a salesperson says and what the document covers is where a shutter complaint usually ends up.

What we fit
A certified Norman dealer, and why that is the whole list
On blinds and shades we fit several lines and pick per window. On shutters we do not, and the story above is the reason.
Shutters
Norman Window Fashions
Manufactured and finished at Norman's own state-of-the-art facilities rather than assembled by a local fabricator. The full range (faux wood, stained wood and specialty shapes) comes from them, and we are a certified dealer.
The alternative
The big local manufacturer
The route most shutter companies in the area still take, and the one we left after staples backed out, corner joints cracked and a warranty claim was refused as sun damage. Worth asking any quote you receive who actually built the shutter.
Warranty
In writing, from us
A limited lifetime warranty on what we fit, issued as a document you keep rather than a promise on the doorstep. Question seven on the buyer's guide checklist, and the one we most want you asking our competitors.
