The homes here
A town that is still being built
Locust Grove has grown more than sixfold since 2000, and it has not stopped: about one home in eight here went up since 2020, and close to a quarter of recent sales were new construction. In Bridle Creek four of the five house plans are two-story, and in Heron Bay new sections are still opening around the golf course and Cole Reservoir. A new house here might come with blinds on every window or with nothing at all, depending on the builder, and either way the real choice is still yours to make.
Oak Ridge Meadows is a 55-and-over community of 365 homesites, and it changes the brief. Cordless shades with no strings to manage, and motorized ones on the windows that are hard to reach, make a house easier to live in for the long run.
The older Locust Grove is still there along Highway 42: a historic district of about three hundred acres with Queen Anne and revival-style houses from the 1870s on, around the old Locust Grove Institute, a school that opened in 1894 and is now City Hall. Eagles Brooke sits apart from both, gated around a golf course that opened in 2006, with bigger houses and the rear glass to match.

Almost every home in Locust Grove is a single-family house its owner lives in, which shifts the question from what is cheapest now to what will last. For most rooms that points the same way: cordless, durable, and a neutral color that suits the house for as long as you stay.

What suits these homes
What suits Locust Grove homes
- Cordless cellular shades
- For bedrooms and living rooms, especially with grandchildren around. No cords to reach, and the honeycomb keeps rooms cooler in summer.
- Motorized shades
- For two-story foyers and great rooms. A motor on a schedule handles the windows nobody can reach.
- Faux wood blinds
- For kitchens, baths and the rest of a new house done in one go. Moisture-proof, durable and easy to keep clean.
- Solar shades
- For homes backing onto the golf course at Heron Bay and Eagles Brooke. They cut the glare and keep the view of the fairway.
