Window treatments in Villa Rica, GA

Villa Rica is a lake-and-golf town that grew up almost overnight, and its windows have two questions to answer: what replaces twenty-year-old builder blinds, and how to tame the light off the water. We travel here for larger projects and do it in one visit.

The homes here

A 2000s town, with lake light to match

Villa Rica more than tripled in the 2000s, from about four thousand people to almost fourteen thousand, and the houses show it: over half were built between 2000 and 2009. That puts a lot of the town's windows twenty years into their first set of blinds, often whatever the builder fitted. Houses of that era mostly have standard-size openings, which keeps a whole-house refresh quick to measure and simple to order.

Mirror Lake and Fairfield Plantation are a different job. Homes there are sold on the view, with vaulted rooms and big windows facing the water, and the sun comes off the lake at the same angle as the view. A solar shade cuts the glare and the heat while you still see through it, and on the tallest glass a motorized one can drop on its own when the afternoon sun comes round.

North of town, The Georgian grew up around its golf course after it opened in 1998, and the newest streets around Mirror Lake are still being built. In a brand-new house the windows can come with nothing on them at all, which is the easiest time to get it right: every room measured once, one order, one fitting.

Four window treatments side by side: sage green cellular shades, wood-grain blind slats with grey cloth tapes, a covered porch with motorized screens, and a hand holding a shade remote.

Fairfield Plantation sits about eight miles south of town behind its own gate and still uses a Villa Rica address. If that is you, tell us when you call so the gate is sorted before the visit, not at it.

What suits these homes

What suits Villa Rica homes

Solar shades
For the lake-facing glass at Mirror Lake and Fairfield Plantation. They take the glare and the heat out of the room and leave the view, which is the reason the house faces the water.
Motorized shades
For vaulted rooms and windows too high to reach. Set on a schedule, they lower before the sun hits the glass, whether or not anyone is home.
Faux wood blinds
The straight swap for the original builder blinds. Sturdier than vinyl and unbothered by a steamy kitchen or bathroom, and a whole house in one color makes the outside look finished too.
Plantation shutters
For the front rooms of a 2000s two-story. Shutters are the one window treatment that changes how the house looks from the street, and they suit the traditional fronts these neighborhoods were built with.
