Window treatments in Thomaston, GA
Thomaston was built by its mills, and its houses still show it street by street. It is about an hour down Highway 74 from our Peachtree City workshop, the same road almost the whole way, and we travel here for larger projects.

The homes here
Two mill villages and a courthouse town
Silvertown, B.F. Goodrich's village for Martha Mills, went up between 1926 and the late 1950s: hundreds of Craftsman and Colonial Revival bungalows and small 1930s houses on curving streets. East Thomaston was laid out for Thomaston Mills in 1919 and was its own town until 1970. Company-built houses like these tended to follow a handful of plans, so the windows repeat, which makes measuring a whole house quick and ordering it simple.
Closer to the 1908 courthouse the houses are older and grander. West Main Street runs from the 1880s to about 1920, and the streets off the square have houses going back to the 1830s, Queen Anne, Mansard and Neoclassical, some still with their original multi-paned windows in pairs and triples. Those are windows to frame rather than hide: a shutter or a simple shade that lets the woodwork show.
Most homes in Thomaston are rented, many of them duplexes and small multi-unit buildings, so a lot of window decisions here are made by landlords. For a rental the practical answer is one durable, cordless blind in a consistent size and color across every unit, so a replacement is a reorder of a known size rather than a new measure.

Thomaston is a straight run down Highway 74 for us, so we plan it as one trip: samples, measuring and a price in a single visit, and the fitting booked as one more. If you own several houses in town, tell us when you call and we will measure them on the same day.

What suits these homes
What suits Thomaston homes
- Faux wood blinds
- For the mill houses of Silvertown and East Thomaston, and for rentals anywhere. They do not warp, they come cordless, and a matching set across a house is easy to keep up.
- Plantation shutters
- For the older houses on West Main Street and around the square. They suit rooms with real woodwork and make the most of windows built before stock sizes.
- Roman shades
- For the multi-paned windows near the square. A flat Roman shade mounted inside the frame shows off the window while it is up and softens the room when it is down.
- Cellular shades
- For older houses that run hot in summer and cold in winter. The honeycomb holds a layer of air against the glass, which takes the edge off both.
