What we fit

The blinds we make to measure

All of it made for your openings, all of it seen in your own light before you commit.

Faux wood blinds
Our best seller, in white wood faux and a 2-inch slat. Handles a kitchen or bathroom without warping the way real wood can.
Real wood blinds
Timeless and light, with superior light control and real insulation against heat and cold. The choice when the room already has wood in it.
Cordless blinds
No operating cord anywhere on the blind. The default recommendation in a house with children or pets.
2.5-inch blinds
A wider slat that opens more of the view on a larger window, and reads heavier from across the room.
Sunburst arch blinds
Faux wood louvered treatments for arched windows, in 30 sizes from 18 inches up to 72. An alternative to custom fabrication at a fraction of the cost.
Motorized blinds
Tilt or lift from a remote, an app or a schedule, on 2-inch and 2.5-inch slats.
Door blinds
Fitted to French doors and sidelights, where a standard blind fouls the handle.
Specialty shapes
Angled, circular and oversized openings, measured individually rather than ordered from a size chart.

How to choose

Three things decide which blind belongs in the room

Most of the choice comes down to what the room does and how much light you want to keep out of it. The rest is material and color, and that is the part best done with a sample in your hand.

First

The material

Real wood is warm and light, and it belongs in a dry room. Faux wood handles a kitchen or a bathroom without warping and costs less. Both are made to measure either way.

Second

The light

Slat width changes how much light gets through and how much of the view you keep. A 2-inch slat is the everyday choice; 2.5-inch opens the view further on a bigger window.

Third

The control

Corded, cordless or motorized. Cordless is the default in a house with children or pets, because there is no operating cord to worry about at all.

Pair blinds with a fabric roman shade if the room needs softening. Layering the two is the most common way we finish a living room.

What you are choosing between

Three ways to work a blind, and the cord is the deciding factor

All three are real products and all three are the right answer in some room. The difference that matters most is whether there is a cord hanging in reach of a child.

Standard

Corded

Best for rooms with no small children and no pets.

  • The most economical lift on any blind we fit
  • Instalock pull cord on our Norman lines
  • Full tilt and lift range on wide and heavy blinds
  • There is an operating cord, so it is not the choice in a nursery or a playroom
Most homes

Cordless

What most of our customers end up with.

  • No operating cord and no continuous loop at all
  • Meets the cordless safety standard for homes with children
  • Push up, pull down, stays where you leave it
  • Cleaner sightline with nothing hanging down the window
  • You have to reach the blind to move it, so a tall window is still a stretch

Our cordless faux wood range is the most-requested line we carry.

Hard to reach

Motorized

Tall windows, stair landings and west-facing glass.

  • Tilt or full lift from a remote, an app or a schedule
  • No cord, same as cordless
  • Works on 2-inch and 2.5-inch blinds
  • A battery to charge, unless the run is hardwired

Blinds or shutters

When blinds are the better answer

Shutters are the more substantial product and they carry a room, but they are also the bulkier one. A shutter frame takes up space at the window and it commits the room to a look. In a smaller room, that weight works against you: blinds sit tighter to the glass, take up less of the wall, and leave a cramped room reading as more spacious than it is.

Blinds are also the more flexible choice when the room is going to change. They pair with a fabric treatment without competing with it, so a room that gets redecorated in three years does not need the window treatment replaced along with everything else.

The honest version: on a feature window in a room you are not going to touch again, shutters usually win. Everywhere else, blinds do the same job for less money and less bulk. We will tell you which one you are looking at on the consultation.

Why ours

The material is the difference, and it is measurable

Most blinds sold locally, ours included, are made from a recycled PVC with a UV-resistance rating of up to 300. That is the industry's ordinary standard and it is fine for most windows in most rooms.

The award-winning Smart Privacy blinds from Norman Window Fashions are made by an original-formulation co-extrusion process Norman invented. That gives them a 2000 UV rating, the highest in the industry, while weighing half what the local product does. On a west-facing window that takes real afternoon sun, that difference is the difference between a blind that holds its color and one that does not.

Norman's line also carries the Instalock pull cord, rated Best New Innovation 2016, best heat resistance in class at 135 degrees, and Best New Technical Innovation in 2012 and 2015. It is their number one seller in the USA and worldwide.

What we fit

The lines we carry

We are a dealer, not a manufacturer, which means we fit the blind that suits the window rather than the one we are obliged to sell.

Smart Privacy

Norman

The line the rest of the page is built on: a 2000 UV rating from the co-extrusion process Norman invented, half the weight of the local product, and the Instalock pull cord. Their number one seller in the USA and worldwide.

Faux and real wood

Alta

A broad wood and faux wood range across slat widths, and the widest color and finish selection we carry. The PowerWand motorized tier if you want lift without a cord. Strong on the everyday sizes rather than the specialty shapes.
